Conservatives to McCain camp: Let Palin be Palin – CNN.com
September 29th, 2008 [Election 2008, General]
5 Comments »Despite my railing on Palin, I’m still not ruling out the possibility that this is all just a finely-crafted facade intended to drastically lower expectations for Sarah Palin’s performance at Thursday’s debate:
Despite some ominous signs, some analysts say the the negative comments may actually help her.“The expectations for Sarah Palin, I think, are pretty low. So I think she can exceed expectations. I’m not sure she can disappoint them,” Alex Burns, a reporter for Politico, said.
Don’t get me wrong – I’m not saying Palin is a closet Mensa member or anything. But I wouldn’t underestimate her ability to make herself look even dumber so that when she finally starts talking, people say, “Oh, gee, that was coherent. Maybe she can be VP.” In fact I’m pretty sure McCain and Co. are banking on it.

The pretense of the ELITE types in both the conservative and liberal press is asstounding! Few are at all concerned about the McCain candidacy and yet they are offering all this ‘step down’ advice as if they were his trusted advisors. With the shallow Obama uhhhhing and ahhhing thru mountains of pandering yet well rehearsed materials that have become mundain over the 20 months of practice, there is little room to criticize Palin for trying to actually ANSWER the oblique and irrelevant questions about “McCains historical regulation record”, the “Bush Doctrine” or “how the bail out will affect health care, job creation and tax policy” The pretentious questions deserve questions in return, such as Katie did you ever think you werent qualified to be an ANCHOR? or Charles which of the five “Bush Doctrines” Krauthammer defines are you referring to? The most interesting thing is that most of those who would criticize Palin for “not knowing” or for her AWKWARD replies were clueless themselves about the Bush Doctrine, and completely overlook the AWKWARD replies given by OBAMA or the complete IGNORANCE about history Biden demonstrated by suggesting ROOSEVELT was President when the 1929 crash occured (we can overlook his stupid assumption about TV being in use then) All this arrogant “Palin” being any more frightning than Obama the ACORN man, whose strings are being pulled so deftly from the left…is of course just more democratic/msm propagandizing. IF she isnt qualified today I am sure in 19 months she will be easily as conversant as Obama on just about any topic.

Russs, are you kidding me? These questions are extremely relevant; they will shape our country for the next presidential terms. Biden is known for gaffes, this is true. Nobody’s defending his gaffes. Have I praised Biden for being brilliant and articulate? Nope. But Palin isn’t making gaffes. She is just wrong on every account, every time. She can’t come up with an intelligent answer that doesn’t sound like it’s being read off a set of flash cards. You make it sound like Obama and Palin have the same level of education. It took Palin six tries before she could find a college that would let her graduate – with a degree in journalism, so she could become a sportscaster. Obama was a civil rights attorney and was a constitutional law professor at a top-tier law school for more than a decade. When asked a question, he doesn’t answer you with word soup. He actually gives a well-thought-out reply. Perhaps you don’t agree with the reply – but that doesn’t make it any less intelligent. Sarah Palin is giving unintelligent answers. She’s giving incoherent answers. That’s a major difference.

Russ,
Please,Sarah Palin is incapable of being VP. Don’t blame the media for her lack of education ,preparation, and intelligence. Have a Moose Burger and a smile.

This is not a case of lowering expectations.
This is a case of putting what appears to be a kindergarden kid who is cute in high school thinking that looks and a smile will get her through final exams.

Any inclination I may have had to vote for McCain, for whom I had a fair amount of respect, has been demolished by his choice of a running mate.
I’d love to see a woman in high office, but honestly, from what I can tell, Gov. Palin was over her head back when she was Mayor. I don’t say that with rancor – she seems to be a person with a forceful personality and an impressive drive to succeed.
But her selection has been an unfortunate blunder for her and for her party, and when I think about the women who *could* have reasonably been selected, it makes me regret the missed opportunity.
